Technology Integration

What is it?

Technology integration is simply using digital technology in the classroom and can be a resource for outside the classroom. It can consist of students using their own devices to access or research information during class tasks and activities, playing a game with the entire class that the teacher initiates and controls from the board, or having class iPads or laptops where students are turning things in via Google Classroom.

One technology-based instructional strategy is the use os a class website to share goals and facilitate class communication (Ormrod, p. 423). Similar to this online classroom management portfolio, students can access more information and resources than they’d traditionally be able to from information that’s simply printed and handed out. It’s a great way to scaffold student learning, allow teachers to communicate with students and parents, and allows students to interact with one another in discussion boards and chat rooms (Ormrod, p. 424).

How will I use it in my classroom?

I will set up a classroom website for students, similar to this WordPress site. Students will be able to access the syllabus online, as well as any additional materials and resources that may support current units and lessons. These will be in the form of “blog posts” so that students will have the ability to comment with questions and/or suggestions. I will also use this to scaffold and model assignments and post any exceptional work from previous years as a reference.

Aside from the class website, I will use online platforms like PollEverywhere during lessons, where students participate from their seats and see their answers/responses on the board. Little games and activities like this will be a fun break from the norm and encourage active participation from all students.
